Indelible Legacy: A Community History Project
Who is the woman in your life that everyone should know about? Is it your grandmother who marched in the 70s? Your neighbor who volunteers every weekend? Your friend who showed up when you needed it most?
Most of these women will never be in a history book, but they’re written into all of us, and when the people who remember them are gone, so are their stories. Indelible Legacy is a community history project that ensures this does not happen.
Throughout 2027, we’re gathering photographs and stories of the women who have shaped our community and keeping them in one place, where they can be seen, shared, and remembered
Honor someone who changed your life, share their story, and help us make sure she’s never forgotten!
Sary Ou (b. 1950) Born in Battambang, Cambodia, Sary had dreams of being a schoolteacher. Her dreams were unfortunately disrupted by the Khmer Rouge Regime in the 1970's, forcing her to leave her home country on foot to Thailand with her three daughters in tow. Sary emigrated to the United States in the 80s, where she settled in Lowell, Massachusetts then later Providence, Rhode Island where she raised five children and a growing bunch of grandchildren. My grandmother didn't have the chance to finish school or pursue a career of her own, which has inspired me to take advantage of the opportunity to continue my own education.
