Providence, RI – The Alcove, a feminist cultural center celebrating women and gender-expansive people, hosted its official grand opening on Saturday, January 10, welcoming more than 200 attendees to an afternoon of celebration, inspiration, and shared purpose.
The open house event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a diverse program of activities designed to bring the community together. Highlights included a performance by the Raging Grannies of Rhode Island, who shared their group's history and performed uplifting songs about community and the importance of gathering together. Attendees also enjoyed guided tours of the Portrait Gallery exhibition, Founders and Inventors Who Shaped Our World, and the Biographical Library, led by The Alcove's Inaugural Curator & Program Manager, Khamry Varfley.
"It was incredible to welcome over 200 people and watch community and connection be built before our eyes," said Amanda Strauss, Founding Executive Director. "The energy and enthusiasm was contagious."
The Alcove is now inviting the community to become Founding Members. Those who sign up before March 31 will receive a rosette pin upon their next visit to The Alcove—a symbol meant to spread throughout Rhode Island as a signal of strength and community.
